The dandelion tea diet and the grapefruit diet are not long-term solutions to weight loss. They are, however, good solutions to jump start your weight loss. There are too many unnatural and expensive products on the shelves at the pharmacy promising to help you begin your weight loss journey. Leave those behind and try either of these natural remedies that both combine easily accessible foods with low-carbohydrate and low-sugar diets.
The Dandelion Tea Diet
Although this is regularly called a diet, consider it a whole-body cleanse. You can follow this plan for 7 or 21 days to kick-start your weight loss journey. You drink dandelion tea twice daily that is made by steeping a handful of tops (no greens) of dandelions in hot water for around 20 minutes. You drink the tea before breakfast and at dinner. Dandelion tea works as a gentle cleanse for your entire digestive tract. Along with drinking the tea, you follow a diet low in carbohydrates and sugar. The diet also suggests 30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week.
Example Menu
30 minutes before breakfast: dandelion tea
Breakfast: yogurt topped with nuts
Snack: mixture of nuts and seeds or celery and peanut butter
Lunch: lean meat and vegetables
Dinner: lean meat and vegetables and dandelion tea
The Grapefruit Diet
The grapefruit diet is the original fad diet. You consume half a grapefruit along with some form of meat and vegetables at every meal, steering clear of most carbohydrates and starches. Along with exercise, you will lose weight. This is also a 7- or-21 day plan.
Example Menu
Breakfast: 1 oz bacon, two eggs cooked the way you prefer, grapefruit
Lunch: lean meat (any amount), vegetables (any amount), grapefruit
Dinner: lean meat (any amount), vegetables (any amount), grapefruit
Snacks: skim milk, tomato juice, grapefruit juice
Tips
Try to consume vegetables that are rich in color such as carrots, peas, greens and broccoli.
Stay away from all starches and sugar. That means no dessert!
If you do not like to eat grapefruit, the Scripps Clinic recently did a study and found that consuming grapefruit juice instead of eating the fruit had the same results after a 6-week trial. They speculate that the chemical properties found in grapefruit reduce insulin levels and aid in weight loss.
